Mr Jose Rehbein

Research Assistant

Jose is member of the Rapid Switch project. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial engineering with a major in Energy and Environment from the Universidad Adolog IbaƱez in Chile (2013). Jose is currently undertaking a Master's degree in Environmental Management, majoring in Conservation and Natural Resources Management  at the University of Queensland (UQ) School of Earth and Environmental Sciences. 
Jose has worked in the energy industry in Chile as a Chief Project Officer for solar photovoltaic projects at Ecoenergias, as well as energy planning for the Chilean Government. Jose founded a company that patented a new electrolyte for Redox Flow batteries, and has been granted almost $1 million USD for various projects from the Chilean development agency (CORFO). Jose also works with Tompkins Conservation and Preserve in Community foundations to help conserve thousands of hectares of pristine landscapes in Chile and Argentina. 
In 2017, Jose won two scholarships from the Chilean research agency (CONICYT) to undertake an internship and a Master's degree at UQ, which will be completed by November 2019. He is currently studying the spatial tradeoffs between conservation and energy in a renewable energy future. 
At the Dow Centre, Jose performs spatial analysis using geographic information systems (GIS) for energy and carbon systems modelling. He is interested in energy, conservation and carbon topics and specialises in spatial analyses.
